The main objective of this research is to highlight the effect of immediate reinforcement in improving academic performance of pupils at the basic school level in Nigeria. to achieve that goal, the researcher formulated a question and a hypothesis. The population of this research consists of the pupils in the government basic schools in state of Adamawa – Nigeria, 40 pupils were chosen as the research sample, using simple purposive sampling, where it was distributed into two equal groups: the experimental group and the control group, The experimental group consists of (20) learners, and the control group also had (20) pupils, descriptive approach was used, as well as observation as a tool to collect information and data about the use of the reinforcement skill that was observed among all members of the sample, The final result of the research revealed the presence of a positive effect of immediate reinforcement in improving academic performance among the experimental group of the basic school level in Nigeria.
The result also confirmed the rejection of the null hypothesis of the research, which indicates that there are no statistically significant differences between the experimental and control groups in using reinforcement skill to improve academic performance among pupils at the basic school level, and accepts the alternative hypothesis, which shows that there are statistically significant differences between the experimental and control groups in using reinforcement skill to improve the academic performance of pupils at basic school level. the research recommends the need to use the immediate reinforcement skill among all teachers at basic school level in Adamawa State in order to attract the learners’ attention to the lesson, as it helps to improve the pupils’ performance, as well as their abilities do well in the classroom.
