Commercial papers, foremost among them the bill of exchange, arose under the customary rules as an expression of the commercial activity’s need for it as a legal means that merchants resort to to settle debts arising from their transactions, but it is not known precisely the date of its appearance despite the efforts made by researchers in the history of law. Because what each of them reached still needs to be supported and proven due to the scarcity of historical documents that can be relied upon in this regard.
