Abstract

The concepts of tajdid (renewal) and ijtihad (independent reasoning) represent the dynamic adaptability of Islamic jurisprudence, ensuring its relevance in diverse historical and contemporary contexts. This study explores the historical evolution, theoretical frameworks, and contemporary applications of tajdid and ijtihad in light of the maqasid al-Sharia (objectives of Islamic law). It emphasizes the impact of new technologies, globalization, and modern societal challenges on these practices. Drawing upon both classical and contemporary scholarship, and integrating Quranic verses and hadith, the article argues for a nuanced approach to address emerging issues such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and environmental sustainability, while safeguarding the integrity of Islamic principles.
