This research dealt with the role of higher education in the social and economic development of the local community in Merowe locality in the northern state. The study relied on the method of social survey through the intentional sample، as it is the most used strategy in social research and used to obtain reliable data. The sample was limited to graduates of the Faculties of Education in the city Meroe، and the Faculties of Literature and Human Studies in Karima City، with a number (100) at the time of the study in (2018)، and the data were collected through a questionnaire، following the descriptive and analytical approach، and the study reached a number of results، the most prominent of which are: The contribution of higher education to the events of community development in Meroe locality And the creation of important changes in them، the mobilization of the commercial markets and their development of graduates، and it led to linking the university with the local community، activating the sporting activity in the locality، and the university graduates obtaining a job after graduating from it، and it came up with a number of recommendations، the most important of which are: qualifying the colleges in the local، expansion and introduction New in the field of technical and technical education، linking the community to these colleges by holding cultural and intellectual lectures، and the necessity for the participation of the local community In supporting and developing higher education institutions in the locality.
