Abstract

Praise in ancient poetry was one of the main purposes. The reason the researcher chose (the art of praise): This purpose is the most widely discussed purpose of Arabic poetry, which allows the researcher to touch upon the theoretical features of this poetic purpose.

The research material was divided into two sections. The first section dealt with the topic of the praise poem in detail about the psychological (moral) virtues, such as generosity, courage, forbearance, knowledge, justice, chastity... etc. The second section dealt with material virtues, such as prestige, beauty, wealth, lineage, etc. One of the most important findings of the research is that Arabs focus their praise on meanings And the psychological virtues, and they considered those who are praised for other than them, that it is not praise in reality. The meanings of praise differ according to those praised, and the validity of the meanings and their safety from excess must be considered. What may occur as a result of exaggeration may reach the point of the impossible. Consider the qualities employed by ancient poets and those that stem from them. Not all of them are suitable for prais except within certain conditions.
